The 5.3 and 6.2 V8s with Active Fuel Management, and the newer Dynamic Fuel Management, are known for collapsed lifters that can take out the camshaft. We replace the failed lifters, and the cam when it is damaged.
Many 5.3 V8s from about 2007 to 2014 burn oil, often from stuck piston rings, and the oil fouls the spark plugs.
Condenser leaks are common on 2014 and later GM trucks and SUVs, and a big cabin in Texas heat is hard on the compressor.
GM V8s commonly snap manifold bolts at the back of the head, causing a tick on cold starts.
Body control module, wiring and sensor faults behind dash lights, dead accessories and battery drains.
Water pumps, radiators, hoses and thermostats, especially on trucks that tow.
