Signs Your Exhaust Needs Attention

  • Louder Than Usual

A rumble or roar that gets louder over time usually means a hole in the muffler, a cracked pipe or a failed flex pipe.

  • Rattling Underneath

A rattle at idle or over bumps is often a loose heat shield, a broken hanger or a catalytic converter breaking up inside.

  • Rotten-Egg Smell

A sulfur smell from the tailpipe can point to a catalytic converter that is overheating or failing.

  • Catalytic Converter Code

Codes like P0420 and P0430 mean the converter isn’t cleaning the exhaust the way it should. The cause is sometimes upstream, like a misfire or a bad sensor, so we test before replacing anything.

  • Exhaust Smell in the Cabin

Fumes inside the car are a safety problem. A leak near the front of the system can let carbon monoxide in, so have it checked right away.

  • Loss of Power or Fuel Economy

A clogged converter or a crushed pipe restricts the exhaust and chokes the engine.

Noticing any of these? We diagnose first and give you a written estimate before any work begins.

Broken manifold bolts are one of the most common causes of the Hemi tick in Ram trucks and Dodge SUVs.

Why Fix an Exhaust Leak Early

An exhaust leak rarely stays small. Heat and vibration keep widening cracks and blown gaskets, and a leak ahead of the oxygen sensors throws off the fuel mixture, which can overheat and ruin a catalytic converter. Caught early, the fix is usually a gasket, a flex pipe or a clamp instead of a new converter.

Yes. We diagnose the converter first, because a failed converter is often caused by something else, like a misfire, an engine burning oil or a bad oxygen sensor. Fixing the cause keeps the new converter from failing too.

Yes. Mufflers, resonators, pipes, flex pipes, hangers and gaskets, on all makes and models.

Only carefully and not for long. A leak near the engine can let fumes into the cabin, and a leak ahead of the oxygen sensors can cause poor running and a check engine light. Have it checked soon.

Not legally on a road vehicle. Removing or disabling a catalytic converter violates federal law, and it will also turn on your check engine light. We repair and replace converters so your car runs clean.
